to chicago, with 124 unsuspecting passengers on board. lisa stark is in allentown, pennsylvania, this morning, and has the latest for us. good morning, lisa. >> reporter: good morning, robin. it's called from bottle to throttle, the time when a pilot is allowed to have a drink and get into the cockpit. the general rule is 8 hours. united airlines even stricter, ten hours from bottle to throttle. this event apparently happened because a co-worker of this pilot blew the whistle, notified authorities. that started the whole chain of events. united flight 949, with 124 passengers and a crew of 11, was ready to push back from the gate at london's heathrow airport and head to chicago when authorities came on board and removed the pilot from the cockpit. he's been identified as 51-year-old erwin washington, shown here years ago, while in the air force. reached early this morning, a heathrow spokesman nfirmed, the pilot, one of three on board the plane, was given a breathalyzer test. and found to have exceeded the legal limit for pilots in the u.k., which is significantly more strict for driver than

and call center, both out of commission. so customers could not arrange for pickup. >> reporter: lisa joins me from metro. first of all, what happened? >> we had a computer thatailed this morning. it was a computer that dealt with the communications functions, several critical functions that we use to communicate with the customers, such as the next bus system. a few of those have come back online. the website came back online at about 8:30, and the customer call centers for metro access and the full system came back closer to 10:00. the nt bus system is still not functioning. some people have to use credit cards to add fare to the cards, and the maximum of only $20 right now. we are getting systems back online and throughout the morning, and we hope to see where we are by rush hour. >> was there ever any kind of an issue with security not knowing where your trains were and that sort of thing. >> the communications with the trains were never an issue at all. we had difficulty moving the bus operators, and by 10:00 that was resolved. the trains, the buses and the power transit service have b

of safest cars. people wanted more info. here it is. our lisa stark joins us from washington with a look at some the winners and losers in the safest car trade. it's a little tougher to get a good grade this year, sshts it. >> reporter: it absolutely is. one car that didn't get a good grade is the subaru outback but the criteria was tougher this year so only 27 vehicles made the cut. to win top safety pick, cars had to do well on frontal crashes. side impacts. they had to offer good whiplash protection in rear accidents. that means well designed head restraints. and for the first time, the roofs needed to be strong enough to hold up in ray rollover. this volkswagen held up well. but this is what happens with a weaker roof. >> well, a lot of vehicles missed this list because of the new roof strength rating. their roofs aren't quite strong enough to get a good rating in our test. >> reporter: failing the roof test cost the honda accord and the ford fusion a place on this year's list. of the cars that passed all the safety tests four are large vehicles, from buick, ford, lincoln and volvo.
